Supporting the community
We partner with the Rotary Club to sponsor the 4th of July Family Pancake Breakfast on the Plaza car show. Besides sponsoring the 4th of July event for 44 years, we also sponsor several “Cruise Nights on the Plaza” during the summer. Proceeds from these events are returned to the community. The club has contributed to the following organizations over the past several years: Boys and Girls Clubs of Santa Fe; Communities in Schools; Disabled Veterans of America; Empty Stocking Fund; Food Depot; Girls Inc.; Kitchen Angels; May Center for Learning; Mayor’s Christmas Fund; Mentoring Kids Works NM; Milagro Middle School; New Mexico Dental Association Foundation; New Mexico Mission of Mercy; New Mexico Veterans Integration Center; Randall Davey Audubon Center; Rotary Club of Santa Fe; Santa Fe Police “Shop with a Cop” program; Santa Fe Animal Shelter; Santa Fe Public Schools (MSABC) Cancer Program; Santa Fe Special Olympics; Santa Fe High School Demon Pride Marching Band; St Elizabeth Shelter; United Way and Vietnam Veterans of America.
History
The Club traces it’s beginings back to the fall of 1961 when 13 car enthusiasts formed the Santa Fe chapter of the Veterans Motor Car Club of America. (VMCCA) The “Veteran” in the club name refers to cars rather than people. The VMCCA still exists today and is active in many touring events throughout the country. In 1977 the club decided to discontinue the membership in the VMCCA and the name was changed to Vintage Automobile Club of Santa Fe. During the 1980’s the name transitioned to the Santa Fe Vintage Car Club. Cyril Fry was the first President. Meetings and touring events were held regularly with the first cars being all pre-war with several Ford Model T’s from 1909-1921, a 1917 Buick, 3 Packard’s from 1928, 1931 and 1938 and a 1926 and 1928 Cadillac.
